Heard on the news this morning that some cliffs at Frenchmans Bay in South Shields had collapsed on sunday at 5:30pm, i thought it might have been the North arm but having looked at the pics in tonight Gazette it looks as though it is the furthest inland face of the bay. I mentioned in a post a few weeks ago that the cliffs at Whitburn were collapsing, which i witnessed at the time and also recall some other posts mentioning that all the cliffs along the South Tyneside coast were "ready to come down". Well looks like they were right, we've had a very harsh winter so it wouldnt suprise me in the slightest if this is the first of many. Please stay safe whilst along the cliffs, you dont know whats happening under your feet.
Just to add, i heard a national trust spokesperson stating that the public should stay behind the safety barrier...the pic in the paper shows the said railing lying at the bottom of the 60ft cliffs.
