This happened to me with a 350 quid fly rod I was in a state of panic mentioned it to an old boy on the way off the lake and he said give it hear I`ll show you a trick and what he did was place it behind his knees holding it with both hands to the outsides of his legs to hold it straight and used the force of his legs pushing apart against his hands and it came apart panic over just incase this happens again worth a try but I must admit I was panicking as he was bent over I was screaming wow wow wow mate its a 350 quid rod

Do not use sandpaper!!
Ive loosened off lots of sticking spigots by applying grease to the joints and slowly turning the rod. It seems to grind the joints and lubricate them. Just keep cleaning the sections and adding a little more grease before finally cleaning the grease off altogether. Works very quickly and it amazing how much crap comes off!
Adding candlewax will only make matters worse! Its a cure for loose or lightly worn spigots not tight fitting ones!!Last edited by CHUKKA; 13-03-2010, 10:31 PM.

...next question....apart from the obvious not pushing it together as hard as buggery...is there anyway to ensure smooth coupling and uncoupling of carbon rod spigots joints?
paraffin blocks which looks like candle wax but is made of paraffin, it is in a solid block just rub on spigot twice a year and you will not have any problems.

ok i had the same problem with my century, if you have a carbon rod what you need to do is apply a little grease to the top piece and gently work it in by twisting it. when you have put it in about 2cm remove it and clean off the grease and you will see excess carbon coming with it. do this a couple of time but please do not force it otherwise you may split your bottom section. once you have de-greased both male and female ends get an old pencil and rub your top miece with the graffite. this will loosen off your spigot.
please please please do not over do it other wise your top end will be to slack and you will need a new top piece and remember to properly de-grease both pieces as it could be a tad silly watching your rod fly apart when casting.
hope this helps and it works for all carbon rods.

years ago my old man used to rub the male end of the spigot ih his hair dont know if this would work with the modern carbon fiber rods, but it worked a treat with the old brass fuffels or what ever they were called, a little grease or oil from your hair might just do it,Tich
