  • Bait Needle

Probably the most worst question on here but it's the last thing I can think of and the only thing that I've changed.

Purchased a bait needle to be used with rag worm in November 09, fished the Tyne in differant marks on over 20 occasions and only caught one fish, ( the first time I used it ) since then I've used it everytime I've been out but nothing, I normally tip off with blueys or mackeral. Will using this have am effect on the bait, probably not but it's the only thing I can think of apart from fish not being there!

    Regards Andy

As said by matchman baiting needles are v.good, they make the worm your threading to be presented perfectly, infact they do the opposite that you say and can infact improve catches when times are hard when baits are presented perfect. I think the instances you refer to either had to do with being no fish or incorrect mark/tide for time of year. Saying that the tyne doesnt produce the numbers of size fish it used too.

I did and article of the police inter federation match one day at Blyth the next at Warkworth for Total Sea Fishing, most of the anglers who came from out the area used bait needles and the bait presentation was spot on, and a lot quicker, and they all caught fish and where near the top. Since then I have wondered why only afew NE anglers use them.

Buy two then you can while away time between bites doing a bit of knitting Seriously though, I bought one last week to help get those big yellowtails on the hook that have a habit of bursting & must say I'm mighty impressed - I'll be carrying one with me from now on.

Remember you commenting on it Alan. Been using one for quite a few years now for lug onto smallish hooks and definately saves them bursting. Can't get away with them for rag but as was said don't really need them.
Handy for whipping a load of mussel or razor together or small pieces of frozen blacks when scratching before they go on the hook. Worth a try for those that havent done it, only a couple of quid.

Once you're used to them you won't go back, saves time and when it's bitter gets youre hands back in you're pockets fast, just as easy with big rag as lug.

Ideal for putting sandeel on as well. You can pre-whip your mussel, squid, razor etc on the needle itself and then push them onto the hook, no bother. One of the best things I've bought and they're cheap as chips.
