To stand a chance of the hat-trick, you’d need to travel; probably to the west coast as the closest location. A rare doggie or ray may turn up here but they are very unusual. You could get some pollock though, from Dunstanburgh or other deeper water marks in the summer.

Seaham pier has produced dogfish in the past few seasons and appear to be on the increase. It has also produced a few thornies aswell, and a member on here did get a cracker of 8lb from nearby Horden beach last summer. As for the pollock, i travel to Eyemouth in south east scotland for my fix, thats not to say theyre not around here, few guys have had some belters on redgills from Shields pier and i know of one 19lber caught in nets just off Shields.

Dunstanburgh castle had the odd dog fish on bait, pollack on bait, leadheads+red twin tails & spinners. Never had a ray or when i think about it never had a flattie of any description. So 2 out of 3.
Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught
