luce bay is the best place i have fished up the west coast.
if you go up try dusk for pollock, fish during the night for doggies, conger and bull huss.first light for mackeral and pollock, during the day for wrasse and pollock.
I spend alot of time up the west coast and normally go from friday until monday.
alot of the marks have gullies which at low water empty, i get some net bags and fill them with macky and a brick and throw them in the gully, when the tide comes in it is unbelivable on how many fish swim in the gully to feed on the macky and some times you get mullet which are impossible to hook but good fun trying.
best bait rag, crab, macky and sandeel.
you will need loads of sinkers when fishing for wrasse.

Try and get hold of some old spark plugs or nuts/bolts for weights and fish on a rotten bottom. All I use is spinning gear from the shore for pollack/wrasse/bass

Here is the proof Phil,a Drummore harbour mullet.
We were prebaiting with bread for a few days beforehand. In the picture my mates son is holding the fish. My mate Pete got snapped off and I missed two bites. They really are crafty so and sos !!!! I have caught them from all round the Med and in Australia but have never caught a UK one YET

when we was up that way we called in snatchers site no life about so we called into that harbour seen 2 lads fishing for them i would love to catch one of them sly species but the tactics are very different to normal fishing these lads was bottom fishing but been told a bubble float works in settled areas and small hooks too
We were using 12' float rods, spinning reel loaded with 5/6 lb mono, quill float and size 8 hook. Going to try freelined bread this summer at the harbour mouth.

My mate Gaverick had on off cairnryan pier last year on freelined bread, we where fishing for other species and saw them swimming about so decided to have a go. We both hooked into a few but they where so lightly hooked they just got off after a few seconds of rod bending action We only managed to land 1 but it was well worth the effort.
Looking forward to getting a few more bass on lures, get some pollock and some wrasse too. Hate this bit of the year though when the cod have gone and the summer species aren't here yet. Probably have a few trips for trout on the fly from next month.

Never fished for them myself in Stranraer yet but seen the local lads fishing for them/catching them by the new marina in the harbour
They were groundbaiting with bread and using light floatfishing gear. I was watching them for about 30 minutes in which time they caught and released 3 mullet. Took this sequence of photos at the time
Hi Billyturbot. When are you planning your first Drummore trip???? We will be opening the caravan at the end of next month but to be honest the fishing does not start to pick up till mid May !!!
