Saturday night in the NvS did for me with the shore fishing for the season

Terrible club results building up to it and despite an excellent turn out the fishing was poor to say the least (being polite)

Tidying up the shore gear this week and putting it to bed for the spring/summer break - going to look at changing how and when I fish next season I think because going out for the "fun" with little reward is a serious drain on finances

the winter fishing never realy started for me mate, spent a fortune on bait for only four codling and a few whities, but god loves a tryier, starting to get a p*ssed at not catching anything decent.

I guess it's not just me then, the feeling I get from from talking to fellow anglers in tackle shops and out fishing, is that this season, for some has been the worst for years.
Thinking about having a bash at Pike fishing for a change. At least your not at the mercy of the gill netters

time to dust off the course gear and look forward to some fresh air that way

Are you giving up on the last few club matches Tony? It's been an ok season for me this year, on the right occasions had plenty of codlings & some pretty good bags locally, the only downside has been the general stamp of fish. I've probably had a lot more "returnees" than keepers (excluding comps, generally anything less than a good couple of pounds goes back) but the biggest downer has been not being able to get anything over 4.5lb. Still a few weeks to get one but I'm being pretty selective as to when & where - waiting for conditions to be spot on & hopefully no barsteward netters () around.

I generally keep at it till the end of March, then April & May get back to a bit of fluff chucking combined with trying for a few nice plaice, again when conditions are spot on. Then by June / July it's back out with the heavy gear for the summer codding up the coast, combined with a few flatty/eel matches up the river. For me the summer season kind of rolls into the winter, so there's really only a couple of months or so when I'm not after codlings

Thats why i jacked in my shore fishing a few years back........... back into my fishing last year but from the kayak!! best decision i ever made. Amazing how much fish is there at times just out of casting distance. There is a good bunch of us getting out of Blyth etc now...... roll on warmer weather

I'll be fishing the last club match Gary and obviously any of the summer stuff that comes along

...got to start giving the FPO some attention in order to accrue the necessary points needed for the Boat fishing

I love fishing all yr round, but when conditions are spot on and your out there... you'll catch for defo... rememeber this lads... i was out 1 tiem at cambios pier n caught nowt lost few rigs was sick... then found out that g-force,gary... was on blyth pier with a difference.. g-force tell the lads what ya got that nite m8 when i got sweet f/a lmao!!

Got to remember there are lads on this forum and in the clubs that have had a boom season by all accounts so I don't subscribe to the theory that the fish aren't there

I have not fished the shore this season but from some of the reports it looked a very good season with many people taken large numbers of 2-3 lb cod and some crackign bags.

Mind it has still not been good enough to force me to get my winter gear out the loft

I beg to differ that they are there....I still keep an eye on the Alnwick Club, and bar one or two lads, everyone else is having a rubbish season. Seas have been better than when I used to club fish with them (always Westerlies after Christmas), so where are they?

I packed in club fishing 2 years back as was sick of blanking and feeling I had to go out on a Sunday even when the sea was like glass, just to blank.
The past two years I have only gone out when the sea has had decent colour and or a good churn, I use the same baits, fish the same places, but in theory should have a better chance of catching due to the tides being more favourable but I ain't seeing it.
During club matches a few years back, fish would be caught in good size and numbers from several locations, within the match boundaries, yet the last few years has seen small pockets of fish at specific marks and at certain times and states of the tide. One day they are there the next they are gone, so it is being in the right place at the right time and this is more critical now than in any time that I can remember.
A sign I have always relied on for if the fish are there is that the seasonal potters get codling in their creaves, and they haven't had many this year......

im gona be geting the carp gear out again soon aswel. theres a few more sea fishing sessions left in me yet tho. maybes a few more comps aswel before the sea gear gets put away til next winter. iv enjoyed this cod season but havent exactly bagged up. spent a fortune on ffing worms and tackle aswel.. iv had a few keepers like with the biggest being 3.5lb. Countless undersize 6-12 inch tommys and the odd flattie. not bad for the first season. hooked for life. good luck for the last few winter comps lads but roll on the summer and the double figure carp.

carnt see too many more sessions for me too come unless a big seas temps me out been poor lately so maybe time to get the rod rested and make her good as new for next season

aye its very quiet at min, only had small stuff in last few sessions even when seas been away. gona have 1 more outing on wed nite and that will defo be me finished till nxt season. looking forward to the summer fishing aint really done much for a few years b nice to get out the lighter gear.
