You would be better off just storing your gear away in a safe, dry place and keeping it.
I would not sell your gear if I was you, you might regret it if you did.

It would be more expensive to buy gear again if you changed your mind in the future.
Costs nothing to keep your gear just incase

Tell us what gear you have to sell if you stop fishing, then we’ll suggest if you should or not. :-)
Seriously though, fishing around this coast has been patchy for years, it’s easy to lose interest after a few blanks but it is hard to give up altogether. Keep your gear somewhere safe for now and wait until reports pick up again or the bug bites. Retiring from fishing is like being a reformed alcoholic, you never give up entirely, you just don’t do it anymore.

Keep on trying, that next bite might just be the one that you remember forever!

Sound advice, I thought I'd probably chuck shore fishing, but read the reports on here, had a couple of sessions, still caught naff all but still enjoyed the fresh air & craic.
            Cheers, Keith.

Just took up fishing last summer as a retirement hobby.(Only 8 weeks to go) Don’t know if fishing isn’t as good as it used to be, I know its not very good at the moment, but I’d rather be on the Beach Waiting for COD than in the Hoose Waiting for GOD......

Just look at the fish the codseeker has caught, STILL WANT TO RETIRE.

fishing this year has been very poor, but i would not give up fishing because we are having a lull, try changing where you fish, i have fished all over this season and my heavist is only 2lb 12 codlin.out there is a big cod with my name on and i will catch it, It may have a brother with your name on, you never know.

get yourself into a bit of course fishing in the spring mate, couple decent sessions and that will get you over the depression and looking forward to the beach again, works for me

surely (for me anyway) one of the big parts of fishing is the adventure of getting out amongst the rocks and beaches and being in the fresh air of one of the best coastlines in the country, admittedly not catching can be demoralising but thats just all part of it and isnt a reason to quit.
                        dont give up mate!!!!

I give up fishing now & again but always keep my gear. I give up 2 yrs ago & had a few odd sessions out then started more often recently. It makes me give up when i am catching nothing but the craving always comes back.
