Whiting 11 inches legal size take away say 5 inches for the head and tail if not more leaves you with a 6 inch bit of fish too skinny to eat,no wonder we hoy em back

      what does depends mean lol

Depends on where and when you\'re fishing. Fresh crab if you can get it, frozen if not.... but then again plain rag or lug might out fish it.

Just depends on what type of ground and what species you\'re likely to catch. No good wasting crab if only Whiting around when worm tipped with squid or fish will do, sometimes just plain mackerel.

Best to have a choice of bait depending on where you\'re fishing. Don\'t underestimate things such as mussel when well into winter for cod, especially after a good stir. Sometimes re-freeze mussel loads of times and still catches fish. On the whole though whatever you\'re after use the freshest available. For instance in summer don\'t touch \"fresh mackerel\" from the supermarket as it will just be mush but in winter can have the edge over frozen for whiting or flounder when fishing a match.

I tend to go for the usual mix of worms, but use smelly razor fish, crab and mussel, which has normally been frozen half a dozen times (mussel not crab) and seems to work better the older it gets,I always keep a fillet of mackerel in my cool bag because if theres no cod you can guarentee Whiting and flounder (re peter) if you use this. For bait sizes if you are after big fish go for a large bait presentation,if you are targeting whiting or flatties go small ie worms tipped off with mackerel.
Heres your minimum sizes on this link Bri

Bri try some razor fish or mackerel strip.
seen some Whiting in Morrisons the other week and they were marginal to say the least.
