  • Old dog new tricks

I've been fishing for many years and have enjoyed this sea fishing but mostly from the clean/mixed ground beaches.
Using distance at times helping my catch rate and enjoyment of guiding double figure fish to the shore -line using light line and small multipliers.

The feel of a big fish taking line off the reel and the rod bent into a nice curve takes some beating in my eyes.

A few years ago if someone said I'm going to start using a fixed spool for the beach fishing I would say good choice then when you get the feel of the shore fishing you can then progress to using a multiplier a much better choice for the angler that is more experience and understanding that's mastering the art of sea angling...

    How times have changed !!!

I would say this fixed spool and braid is one of the biggest changes in shore angling in the last few years that I have seen, even the change from solid glass rods to carbon fibre rod was progress but this f/s and braid is amazing
change in thinking and its so good that now top anglers are changing over to this style of fishing and more amazing they using this method in the tangles of the rock edges of our tackle hungry beaches.

So getting back to the header topic(Old dog new tricks) I want to learn this new style of fishing and my eyes are open and looking for help/tips best line/ best f/s reels and rods/what knots needed and casting style .
Summer coming on so light nights to get clued up for changes.

im the same, used a multi for 40 years thinking fixed spool for beginners. i changed over this winter and wont be going back.

i still like to use my small multis and light rods over clean ground but have had my ttr rebuilt with k guides and a tip sport the same. sold all my 525s and 7000s.

love the ease that comes with the fixed spool and braid ive had no problems with it and had lots of fish.

i have a pair of shimano ultegra 10,000s one reel loaded with 30lb braid and other with 60lb.

all spools have a 90lb braid leader.
