does anyone know if your allowed to carry a knife when fishing or can you be prosecuted for carrying one for gutting fish

Not sure, but if you carry it in your pocket in a public place on your way to a fishing spot I'd guess you're asking for bother. Again, only guessing but if it's in your tackle box / bag while not fishing you should be ok.Cheers, Keith. -

Im sure that you can carry a filleting knife as long as you can prove what its for and it is kept in your beta box or what ever else you use to carry your gear about in.

By rights, you are not allowed to carry anything with a blade over 3" long.
But don't get caught out with a multi tool either.
A multi tool like the leatherman is illegal even though the blade is 3"or under, this is because the blade actually locks into place.
The only real legal one to carry is something like a swiss army knife.
There was a write up in a fieldsports site about it.

i used to carry 2 filleting knifes and a baiting knife with me everytime i went fishing (in my beta box mind)
im just getting back in to the sport nd i will be doing the same this time. . . . . . .

Its common sense lads. If i was on duty and i saw a lad in the street with a knife he would be stopped. Is there a good reason for having it-if not your locked up.
Best off leaving the knife in the bottom of your box or bag.
