  • Tiga Battery

I hadn't used my Tiga headlamp for almost a year, with not being able to go fishing. I tried charging the battery a couple of times for a few hours but no luck, so ordered a new one. I thought I would just stick the old battery on charge and leave it for a while, about five days later it is working perfectly, but at least I have a spare battery now

So if it happens to you, try sticking it on charge for a few days before buying a new one.

    Jim.

Good that you got it working again Jim.

The best thing to use to recharge a battery that has stood for ages if it is 6 or 12 volt, is an accumate charger.
They are expensive, but are an intelligent charger that can revive a killed battery.
Mind you, sometimes they cannot if the cells have broken down too much.

The great thing about them is that, if you know that your battery is going to be standing around for a long time, you can leave the Accumate plugged in with your battery on charge and it will keep it charged by trickling it only when it needs it

They are sold for keeping motorcycle batterys charged while stored over the winter.
    The 6V / 12V selectable smart charger.

They retail at around £45 but are worth every penny.

    Here's the info.........

AccuMate is the sister product to the well established OptiMate motorcycle battery charger/optimiser, which has a proven reputation with over 1,000,000 OptiMates sold to date. Like OptiMate, AccuMate is designed to automatically charge and monitor batteries with no danger of over-charging regardless of time. AccuMate is suitable for all 6V and 12V lead acid batteries from 4Ah to 75Ah, making it perfect for owners of vehicles which are not used on a daily basis like classic and sports cars.

Operation of AccuMate is completely automatic. It uses a 1.2A constant current charge as the main stage, while monitoring the battery voltage. When this reaches a pre-set cut off point, it then switches to an intermediate constant voltage 'float charge'. Only when AccuMate has detected that the battery is properly charged will it switch to the final stage for correct long-term battery maintenance and indicate a green LED. If at any time AccuMate detects that the battery has discharged, it will automatically revert to the constant current stage.

Do not be fooled by other similar compact chargers of the same price range, which do not have the complex circuitry to safely charge batteries over long term periods.

    AccuMate 6-12V - 4 step charger & maintainer for 6V and 12V batteries.

    Features:

    · Versatile, 4-step, automatic charger and maintainer for all modern and classic 6 & 12V lead-acid batteries up to 75Ah.

    · Perfect for all types of rechargeable lead-acid batteries: filler cap types; absorbed acid "MF" for motorcycles; valve regulated (VRLA); & GEL-electrolyte types.

    · Very easy to use - Select 6V or 12V charging output according to battery type and then connect to battery and mains power. The rest is fully automatic.

    · Comprehensive & intelligent LED indications - AC power on; battery voltage selection; wrong polarity connection; charging; and maintain (charge completed).

    · The green maintain (charge completed) LED means exactly that, charging has been completed.

    · No risk of overcharging – designed for long-term connection. AccuMate`s special monitoring circuits vary & regulate the current & voltage exactly according to the battery manufacturer’s specifications.

    · SAFE & foolproof - No worries about wrong connections, accidentally shorting the battery clamps or blowing fuses. Automatic protection even suppresses sparks.

    · Compact, yet powerful - Will safely charge 12V batteries discharged to as low as 3V (1.5V for 6V batteries) when other chargers are unable to. Charging time equal to a 3 Amp conventional charger despite the compact size.

    · No risk of overheating - Automatic temperature control regulates charge current to a safe level in hot or enclosed conditions.

Cheer's for that dazzer, I'd never heard of them before. I don't think it's worth me buying one for what I would need but for anyone with seasonal vehicles they could save a fortune. I will have to start leaving myself an alert to charge my batteries up every now and again, at least that way they won't just die.

You can get them from a variety of motorcycle parts & accessory shops.
I would have a search on the internet if I was you & see who is the cheapest.

Just put Accumate in a search.

I never gave that a thought Sean, that said mind it's not a Tiga replacement but just an equivalent battery that Keith picked up for me so not too expensive mate. At least I've got a spare one now if I forget to charge it up lol. I switched it on for four hours today and it was still as bright when I switched it off, stuck it back on charge till in the morning again.

Cheer's again for the info dazzer, handy to know mate.
