  • Fishing rod for the bairn

Right. I've got my eldest into fishing and he loves it. Started him off bait fishing for trout and now at 9 he's ready to get on the beach.

He's been using a crappy rod set but with a de ent Shimano f/s. I want to get him a decent rod for his birthday that he can use for the trout bait fishing but also that will be able to cast a bit further and let him get fish on the likes of Druridge.

I reckon an 8 foot rod would be about right - any thoughts on what to look at? Looks like Abu and Shakespeare have some decent ones?

My 4 and 7 year olds use 9ft rods with the oldest using a 12ft carp rod sometimes. I'd imagine a bass or heavy carp rod would be ideal.

I recently got a 9' abu vendetta for my 7 year old to use. It's really nice, and I'm surprised how easily he can use it.
