  • any advice

im after a new rod. my mate is selling a greys orion 13 ft rod for 80 quid. im in 2 minds whether 2 buy it or spend an extra 20 quid or so on a new ron thompson accelerator. any advice would be much appreciated.

Depends on where you intend fishing. Orion is fine for clean to mixed ground such as beaches, rivers, broken ground etc. I would opt for the Axcellerator if you're fishing heavy ground, rocks etc.
Orions are nice rods for the price.

Each to their own but the Orions will handle these no bother

I bought a RT Axellerator after reading rave reviews, I hadn't done a lot of shore fishing so when I kept getting birds nests I blamed the reel, after trying Abu's, Penn 535, Slosh 30 then Penn 525 Mags I came to the conclusion it was because the rod was so unforgiving.

Proabably a great rod in the right hands and good value for money but not for me.
          Cheers, Keith.

I have the same rod and had the same problem, I now use it only for rocky areas where its ideal.

i know not everyone likes fishing with the reel down the butt, i do, but when u have a pokey rod this makes them more docile and adds yards without even trying, but like i say it's not everyone's cup of tea.
give it try and if you don't like it change back, simple

cheers for the advice lads. its much appreciated as its quite new to me and was in a bit of a pickle what to do. iv opted for the orion in the end after summing up the advice. i only really fish light ground anyways and my casting neets a bit work so think il work my way up 2 a stiffer rod after a bit practice. that and the fact that my pal knocked the price of the orion down 2 60 quid. cudnt sayt no. but thanx alot and sum crackin pics there peter. nice 1
