Blyth Beach.

Yeah the beach does not often fish well in daylight,its not very steep

I've got to agree with Paul, unless your after flatties Blyth beach is not to good during the day. I have only ever seen one Codling caught during the day, I'm not saying there hasn't been more, I have only ever seen one.

That said mind I was going to start giving the beach a try for Bass during the day until my spine went, I only ever had one attempt and the beach was far too busy. It must be worth a shot in some of the more quiet spots on the beach though, either with a few plugs or a light rod cast into the surf with some Ragworm, or even both as long as you keep your eye on the rod in the rest in case it dissappears lol.

Area's like the farm where there aren't as many people about have got to be worth a shot as I've had and seen a few from there over the last few years, but keep away from the crowded spots as they are very easily spooked.

i was fishing blyth pier same time as you, as you said had plenty of small bites (7) but i didnt manage to catch anything and blanked was freezing aswell

were you the guy with the tripod and red coat?

I'm going to throw one in here but where does fish in daylight these days?!
The odd fish will come off Rock marks etc...Just like the odd fish will come off beaches.

If the conditions are right i'm sure u'll catch fish off most beaches its just nobody goes and trys it!

U can't tell me that when a big sea comes away the day b4, the next morning when its dying, overcast in winter that the fish will suddenly shoot off leaving all that food behind. Can't see it. U'll still catch the odd fish like u will off the rock ends.

Your right about there not being many fish caught off the beaches these days Cod,cod,cod, there used to be the likes of the Blast where you could possibly catch and also the beach at the Alcan but that was just because they were so dirty.

I'm not talking about just now though, I haven't fished Blyth beach during the day for many years as it has never been worth it during my fishing days. I remember fishing with Billy Brown one day on Blyth west pier, there were two lads fishing on the beach and Billy said he had told them they didn't stand a chance of catching a Cod on the beach. One of them said he would prove Billy wrong and he did, he caught one about 2 1/2 lb.

I had a mate from Blyth that always prefered the beach to the pier so would sometimes fish the beach all day with him on a Sunday. To the best of my memory, neither of us ever took a Codling home that was caught during the day.

I don't know how many times you have fished Blyth beach or how many Codling you have caught during the day from it but I can only go from my own knowledge, memory and talking to friends from Blyth that fished there regularly too.

Maybe some of the distance casters may be able to catch more but not me or my friends I'm afraid.

I think the problem with Blyth beach is that it is in the main a gently sloping beach.
Just watch some of the jet skier and wind surfers when they hop off and the sea is barely at chest height,even when they are a fair way off.
So your going to have to be a fair caster to get into a decent depth.
Not forgetting that the fish are not only looking for food they are also trying to avoid being food themselves.
So even if there is food in abundance for them in the shallows if they don't feel safe they are not to be there in any numbers.
Though i have in the summer watched fish very close to the beach,as in 10/15 feet from the shore when i have been strolling along the pier,but they were rare.
Lastly go look at some of the comp reports,usually fished during the day,don't think i have seen a winning bag from a beach like Blyth.

I think one of the opens last year was won with a fluke fish from Blyth / Sluice beach (quite a good one if my memory isn't playing tricks!), but I'd still go along with the above comments - in the main Blyth Beach isn't worth fishing (for codlings) in daylight. Some good bags of flatties can be had (I remember Bob Gascoigne won an open last year with a bag from the middle toilets) and I've had a bit of fun catching schoolies late in the day towards the back end of the summer. On the whole though, I think any codling caught during the day from there are sheer flukes.

All that said, I do think the pier fishes better in daylight, when the conditions are right.

I've moved this from choppers report as I didn't intend starting a discussion on Blyth beach on his catch report, sorry about that chopper.

Gary, that is one of the strange things about Blyth pier. It will fish really well for a while during daylight then for a while in the dark it really has no pattern to it at all changing from tide to tide. I will agree though that it can quite often fish better during daylight. Why? I haven't a clue lol.

and just to prove everyone wrong, Chris Stringer fished the same palce today in daylight on Blyth beach, the first time he has fished it in daylight and caught five codling for 8lb 1oz 10drms.

yes ya rite alan some big holes opened up on the beach alan m8, they r holding fish day & night but not many knew that lol.

I have seen or heard nothing that will change my mind Cod,cod,cod!, if it was such a great day venue for Cod, why is it that Chris Stringer has never fished it before during the day? Two other questions, what's with the sarcasm? has someone on this thread said or done something to offend you?
