I enjoy the mark, but it's probably the worst mark I have ever fished in terms of tackle lost. Even with a rotten B on it's still hard to get in and that ledge or whatever it is...nightmare. I think the bottom must be like Hartlepool headland south of the Heugh - huge boulders sharply varying in size.

I can't work it out, I'm a decent chucker but I cant seem to ever clear the snags even with my best effort.

100-150 yards clears the snags and gives you loads of time to lift your gear over the shelf.

Pop into moonfleet and have a look at the yuki continental rods , some nice reasonabley priced rods , I bought the Kiiro surf at 4.5 m it casts 5onz with ease and I've lifted 2.8 fish over the fence at Jarrow with no probs , I've tried the sonik rods 14 and 15 and there a class bit of kit but canny pricey for ya first try , good luck in ya choice bud .
        I am a fisherman !
It is not merely something that I do
It is who I am !
Fishing is not simply my escape.
It is where I am supposed to be.
It is not a place that I go
But a lifelong journey that I am taking
It is a passage that was shown to me and that I will continue to show others.
When you understand all of this you will then know me .
        And we will fish together

few times i have fished groyne over the last couple of yrs off end casting towards tynmouth pier on the flood i have lost no gear and had a few fish to 3 lb but i do reconise some have a prob on the groyne.

why not try lead lifts when fishing there.
did you know panel pins comes in diff sizes ?

I'll keep that advice in mind regarding the groyne, cheers lads.
Not my preferred mark and a fair way from home for me, but a good accessible mark when fishing with the oldies
