    shocker knots

can you find anyone who can show you how to tie a bimini twist? ive used this knot for ages,18lb main line,70lb shocker on a 525 mag with no problems. Have you checked the liners on the rings. If there is a cracked one it will tear the line to pieces. Best of luck, hope you find an answer.

Is it cracking off as soon as you cast or is it midcast If its as soon as you cast then its deff a fault on the knot or rings....if it is midcast then it is almost certainly your line lay at fault resulting in the birds nest, not laying the line on evenly enough (going back over on yourself during) reeling in, if it is midcast then you will soon get the hang of loading the spool on the retrieve, but like willy said it still happens every now and then to the best of us

I use 18-20lbs main with a 60lbs shock and i manage to get a neat knott, when you're loading the shock on you want a least half a rod length of shock from the rod tip to the top of the rig body then 5/6 turns on you're reel.....does this make sense?

Anyway if you're cracking off whilst you are "loading" the rod during the cast it could be the knott or a nik in the shock

If you're cracking off after you've released the cast it's more likely due to over-run on the reel causing the line to flare and snap off - try smoothing the cast or using more brake on the reel to slow the spool - when you get more confident you can do this with you're thumb

haven't had time to read other answers so somebody may already have suggested using a heavier main line 30-35lb as 20lb line to me is a bit light and will easily cut through your 60lb line. Is your shock leader long enough to get a good four or five turns round the reel spool, also checkj your eye holes for damage and your line for damage after every cast, this might be the cause if it is intermitent. Or on the odd cast you could be letting go a tadge to late and you are getting a whip effect.
