      you want to think yourself lucky you have a pier to fish off (WHEN ITS SAFE TO DO SO )the pier was not built to satisfy anglers needs it was built for safety of ships entering the harbour so you should not shout your mouth when the powers to be are repairing it for the safety of the public that use the pier and not just the anglers

      in the meantime why not try shileds pier its only a short bus ride away

          move to the centre of the universe mate (NEWCASTLE), plenty of deep water marks there which help plums like us who struggle to cast over 40 50 yds, also plenty of rough ground marks where it isnt so deep but you only need to be casting 40 yds or so, just a suggestion plus it is the centre of the universe, and alot better than red and white land IMHO, lol

              the pier is closed for a reason repairs that need to be dont not just for our sake but for the sake of the public and who ever else uses the pier and as far as xasting ability's go its not the tools for the job it's the tool thats using tem stop feckin moanin and get on the beeches in the kelp beds and rocks whats the matter with you??
