Useless? How on earth are they useless? Are you saying they should leave it open even though it is damaged so that people have a chance of falling in and a good possibility of drowning? Then the lifeboat being called out so that those lads can risk their necks too just because someone thinks they are useless for closing it?

It's not their fault that it is damaged it is down to the sea, that is what the sea does, it always will. Calling the people that close it useless because it is damaged is really not very clever at all. When something is unsafe it must be closed until it is made safe again that is the law, and not a useless law at all either.

        Jim.
Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.

          Totally agree.

I mean, its only been standing over 100 years and had to deal with every massive sea every winter.

Surely the leisure department could negotiate with the weather to take it easy on the Sunderland area.

As a 24/7 fishing venue,I suggest they buy a defunct oil rig and dump it 400 yards off seaburn beach, and make it accessible by tunnel, with an elite membership of who posts the most stupid comment (s) on an internet message board.

The pier is classed as a public footpath,so anyone tripping and being injured due to any damage would be able to put a claim in against the council.
Thats why they always close it till any repairs are done.
Have a look at all the patches in the concrete surface next time your on..

They have a place near there you can fish 24/7. Its called a BEACH. You can see it just at the start of the pier. It isnt to hard to miss unless you are walking around with your eyes closed.

are you for real ? jim was making a valid point re the health and safety issue! the pier is not just there for anglers, its for anyone who wants to go there for what ever purpose.if you want to fish around that area there are plenty of other safer marks at the moment so why not fish there ? not being a killjoy but commen sense sometimes is best
