Altho x trails are a good toy Mick, there not as good in the ruff stuff as say a land rover I'm not 100% sure but I think the 4x4 system is a viscous coupling so it's not in true 4x4 mode. I've owned loads of 4x4's and would say an x trail is more of a school taxi if ya know what I mean! here's a couple of pics when I had a swb pajero stuck, me mate tried to pull me out with his x trail and got nowhere! his dash board was lit up like a christmas tree with warning lights! another mate had to pull me out with a battered old landy! lol

xtrail
an xtrail wouldnt be my choice if your wanting something to do a bit offroading in, nice comfy cars but thats all they are! if you are heartset on 1 make sure you buy some good tyres or you wont make it off the beach if you get on! ive had a few 4x4s and landys are second to none at doing what there build for but have reliability problems, if its just beaches you want to go on something like a subaru forester or legacy are more than capable of getting threw muddy fields and such just lack the ground clearance for the real stuff but there as reliable as anything out there. But each to there own cars are pretty much an individual thing and im sure you will be happy with your choice.

i used to own a x trail and thought it was great they have a electronic 4x4 system where you just turn the switch and also has four wheel lock it also corners on the road better with less body roll than the other 4x4,s which iv owned i also had 2 terranos and a pathfinder and thought the x trail was the best as most of the time you will be driving on the road

I,m not doing out daft lads. I had to qualify at work to drive the 4x4,s and this meant a days training in the landrover.(which i had been driving for 10 years before they found out my police licence did,nt cover me or).
The landrover we used was the old workhorse type. Possibly a defender. It was more like a tractor.
Just want something for where i live up here in Consett. Snow city. If i can get to the end of Steetly all the better.Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

the fourtraks a good bus bud, n reg onwards, or you could go mad like me and get the L200, mines been in most of the places my old trak would go, but it has a lot more comfort for longer trips
landrovers carry high s/h prices and the spares are not cheap, the discos aint too bad if you get a good condition older one

Good luck Mick getting it onto steetley. A word of warning though. Unless you have true off road tyers on it beware as normal tyers do not like the soft sand very much. The bit of soft sand just at the bottom of the ramp just before the pier is a nightmare and you will be up to the axels in no time.
Good luck.

Mick X-Trails are nice cars for the road but not off it, I sank mine a few times on the fields while out shooting and just the once on the beach, that was with off road tyres too, it's a heavy beast mate, if your just wanting a second car for off road fishing get one of these, my old Suzuki Vitara with some 50/50 Colway tyres on, she would go anywhere.
