Seeing as I live 60 miles from Seaham I was a bit reluctant to go up there today due to the wind (It's the sprouts you know) Anyway at about 9.30 I'd made my mind up to just do it & go & have a look. An hour later I was looking at the south pier & wondering why no-one was on but I decided to pop to NE Tackle & grab some worms, I'd taken some squid with me. Got back & parked up & was on the end by about 11, I stuck a pulley rig on with a fat worm & a squid head, lobbed it out about 80 yards & waited.....about 10 mins, before the line went slack & the tip went straight, I grabbed the rod & tightened the line again. There was no doubt there was a fish on & I wasn't even snagged!
Anyway it was a codling of about 2lbs & I was chuffed.
I've been sea fishing about 10 years &, believe it or not, this is only the 2nd shore caught codling I've had (the 1st one was last week off the north pier) but truth be told, up to now I've maybe only done 2 or 3 sessions a year due to distance & crappy shifts but....me & 2 mates joined SSAC this year which has made us more enthusiastic & committed. Happy days.
As a bonus, when I was leaving the pier I met Geordie H! Nice talking to you Geordie & good luck with that problem you were having.
