  • Sea angler does it again...!

I rarely buy the sea angler magazine these days for various reasons, but hearing there was an article on Iceland, and shields pier got a mention, I decided to pay the 3.25 and buy it.

The Iceland article was very informative, but reading the piece on shields pier, I noticed that the article suggested that Frasers in Gateshead was the 'local' tackle shop?

I was just wondering what the 'local' writer has against the 3 (or possibly even 4) tackle shops that are a damn site closer than Gateshead?

I also know that this isn't the first time the same thing has happened! ...strange

I noticed that frazers is a canny bit out of your way if fishing shields , wonder how much they paid to have only them mentioned in the article

It totally depend on where Sea Angler get their information from. The person supplying the information may prefer to get his bait/tackle from a certain shop so will mention them when writing an article.

Same old same old, every few months someone brings this up for whatever reason and most of the replies have nothing what soever to do with the title. As this has been talked about lots and lots of times to save it causing even more problems I have deleted all of the posts that are not on topic

The thread wasn't started to cause an argument, simply to highlight a point that a lot of people have mentioned about the recent article!!!

I was simply wondering why 4 tackle shops; all of which are closer than Frasers, have not had a mention!?

Not a problem Fluffchucker, it is a question that has been asked quite a few times on here and something that always baffled me when I first started to buy it in the early 80s. If I thought the question had been asked to cause an arguement you wouldn't be answering your thread now. The deleted posts had nothing to do with your question though that is why they have gone.

Perhaps, Jim, the question needs to be asked of the author of the piece, either through an open forum, like this, or via the web site of the magazine involved. As someone who has no interest in the debate I have no axe to grind. I enjoyed both TSF and Sea Angler when I was growing up but need them less and less as I've developed my own skills for the area I fish. I suspect most of the board members are the same. The option is there to buy or not to buy.

I would agree 100% David, but as the question has been asked on here we will see if Paul can find the reason. It can be very confusing to any new anglers that read the magazine to find out there are no tackle shops any closer to the fishing mark in the article.

Before I found out where they all were I was out of my way a couple of times, no websites in the dark ages . To me it would be better if they didn't mention any tackle shops at all, rather than to mention one that is miles away. Nothing at all against Frazer's, I have used them many times with no problems but as Fluffchucker says they are not a local tackle shop to South Shields pier.

                Jim.

Funnily enough, I personally think Sea Angler has improved enormously over the past few months....

They seem to have really picked up on the conservation theme and are much more pro active now in promoting AT and informing anglers on article 47 etc, as well as promoting angling tourism in both Ireland and Iceland. We've also had celebreties such as Anna Ryder Richardson and bollywood actors fishing recently, which is a very clever coup in my opinion in the fight for hearts and minds, promoting angling to a much wider scope of people than just us die hards.
I like the fact that Alan Yates speaks his mind, often going against common opinion.

Like any magazine, paper etc, there are bits I'm still not so keen on but even they are improving (fewer pics of people holding up dead mullet etc in their gardens).

All in all I am enjoying Sea Angler again!

(A signed copy in the post would be adequate payment for the compliments Paul....Lol)
"And I looked, and behold'a pale horse; and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with hi, and power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword and with hunger, and with the beasts of the earth"

Red, i think you are missing the point its not wether sea angler magazine are improving/good read its about some of the content in fishing marks which are quite clearly incorrect.
Put yourself in this situation, after reading sea angler you decide to travel to one of the locations (which quite a lot of anglers still do) and its an area you dont know that well so you look to the piece in your sea angler magazine for as much info as possible.
After following the directions you get to the destination and hope to find a tackle shop close by as the feature suggests and there is not one, what you going to do?
Your in a strange place with not a clue as to the distance between the tackle shop and the venue in the feature.
What a great start to your days fishing.
And just before Paul starts his defending and having a go at me, this post is in no way a slurr on the magazine, i just wish they would get there act together so this kind of post was uneccessary.
If people think you are an idiot, why speak and remove all doubt !

Paul, no one has blamed you for the mistake, it is something that has been happening since I first bought it a very long time before you worked there. If no one has blamed you for it, why would you need an apology. My thinking was (and still is) that maybe you could have a word with the powers that be and see what could be done about it so it still isn't happening in another 30 years.

A lot of us do understand the problem with space, Alan Charlton has often had lots of his work cut out because there was no room for it as will Terry also I expect.

If it had been an attack on you personally it would have been removed the same as the comments were that had nothing to do with this thread. As I said in a prevous post, this exact subject has come up several times before on NESA, before you were a member perhaps Paul but it has been talked about.

                          Jim.

I totally agree with you Jim, I put this post on a while ago when I read it in the sea angler, I will say this however, when people new are coming to shields and don,t know the area it would be nice the the sea angler to get it right and mention that there are four tackle shops nearer to their venue, I remember one of the reply,s I got was it was all down to space by a certain angler from Sunderland. Can you smell that bull***t.
