The only comp. I have fished which was inherently 'Straight' (or as straight as you can get),was in the early 70's at Seaham - I think it was advertised as 'The Big One'
It was used as a communications exercise by the T.A. and there was a squaddie with a radio placed at intervals right along the boundaries.
If you caught a fish, the onus was on you to take it to the soldier where he estimated its weight, cut it (to prevent it being weighed twice) and radioed your details and that of the fish to H.Q./weigh-in.
If you turned-up at the weigh-in with a fish that had not been reported in this way the the fish was disallowed.
Not totally foolproof but as good as you can get.
