  • does this happen often !!!!

yesterday outside a tackle shop a group of blokes were having a smoke, nowt unusual there but when i walked past again after picking my dinner up from a nearby butchers i heard them discussing tactics for sunday.....

....." WELL WHOEVER GETS THE BIGGEST FISH BETWEEN US GETS THE TICKET OR IF ITS NOT VERY BIG WE'LL JUST POOL THE FISH FOR THE BAG " ........

i was very dissappointed to hear that and can only assume that they are fishing the comp on sunday, and have only bought one ticket between them .

i am pleased that i am not entering as i doubt i could outfish 5 rods...and at £15 a go and no doubt a couple of quid for pairs and various pools, then the cost of bait and diesel it could cost the neck end of £50 only to fish against a few cheats., i hope they are caught and made an example of.... people like that make my pi#s boil....

with hindsight i should have took a photo of them on my phone and sent it to the organizers .. who without a doubt have put a lot of effort into the organisation and getting sponsors etc...
i hope this is only a very small minority of anglers... thats if you can call them anglers..

aaaarrrrrgggg it makes me mad..... lets just hope that they catch sod all and lose loads of gear and snap their rods or lose their car keys and cant get to the weigh in if they do catch

best of luck to you if your fishing the comp..

I would think so as anything that can make money will be open to cheatting.

Shore fishing, boating fishing and course fishing all the same but often than none its the people that know how to fish that win over the ones that know how to cheat.

Why don't all the comps introduce a ticket marking rule where the angler who catches the fish must have it signed by someone nearby who is not a mate with them! Surely with the boundaries in most opens someone will be near by, and if not then maybe some of the open organizers should rethink the sometimes ridiculous sizes of the boundaries they put out.
Anyone caught cheating should be named and shamed!
This happened when Burradon club ran their open..
            Just add water!

if you have got time i would pop along to the weigh in and if you recognise the guys point them out to the organisers, they would certainly appreciate it. I was once in Temples (now Lewis tackle) and a group of lads where discussing this not knowing I was an organiser, banned them straight away, they where not best pleased as they had bought a load of bait, mind I did wait until they had.

Please name the location and if possible a description if any of them were distinctive ,someone will then possibly know one of them.

when money is involved, you always get greedy, weak minded people who try to take advatage and put into disrepute a sport they love as much as any of us honest anglers, [they would't be anglers if they did't love our sport ] me i fish for total pleasure, i don't enter any comps i'm a sea angler and maybe not a brilliant one, but that dosen't really matter, when i go out for a sesh winter or summer and you reach your mark i'm full of anticipation, i've watch in the early morning the sun comes up and hit the sea it was like a billion diomands sparkerling all at the same time, when i got my biggest cod from the shore and knew i had a cracking fish on man you can't put a price on moments like that ,but it is like every thing in life if you are corrupt and money is your god then cheat you will, what a shame these people have forgotten what sea angling is all about.

Hopefully the people that win the comps are genuine, I myself wouldn`t question anyone's honesty without proof and I believe them that are honest deserve the rewards for there dedication to the sport, however there is an old saying that where their is money there is a fiddle so to answer the question "does this happen often !!!!" (with regards to cheating within comp`s in general regardless of methods) sadly some wouldn`t like the answer but you could almost guarantee it, the only good thing is that the people that do cheat are not guaranteed to win.

No man or woman could convince me there was not a chance of dishonesty in a competition where if you have a large group of people entering a comp that where to be spread across miles of coastline that are not marshaled it would be a fair assumption that at the weigh in at least 1 bloke would be stood with more fish than he actually caught himself.

I myself wouldn`t enter comps because there would be no point as I am a crap fisherman but honest and relying on luck alone would be foolish.

That's the whole point. It IS a small majority but that's all it takes to 'mug-off' the genuine competitors.

It stinks and always has done!

Anyway, weather conditions have 'stopped their gallop' (for now) but there's always the next time and the next time and........
