Dangers of Pendulum Casting

hello mate

what kind of idiot was pendulum casting on a pier anyway , it should be banned on piers , wots the point your in deep water anyway , i use it only when i need to ie daytime or when there is a surf on , ive cast at n.e.s.a and n.w.s.a and at uksf , and they preach SAFETY ie knots , leader and so on , hope its no-one i know it gives the casting clubs a bad name

I have done some casting on the field there and even the best casters around have snap offs aswell like you say knots and gear ,when I 1st went I went with fast link clips thinking I could use them ,but couldn't because thay can straighten out ,had to be a oval link opened my eyes

there ia afew that get on S/S pier who do the pendulum, and often have snap offs. and its been alleged 1 guy in particular on end of pier who has snapped of twice and his leads have landed round 44 mark and the other on the double steps at 46 mark and been told all thought it was a big joke ,

Half right. The lad that died took a 6oz sinker to the head when someone side swiping had the lead and line part company. Happened way back in the 1980s (can't remember exactly when).

So it wasn't pendulum casting (which if done safely and with consideration is far safer than a hell of a lot of other casts you see on the beaches and piers) but crap technique executed with dangerous gear that caused the tragedy.

Totally agree there are a lot bad casters that don't use the pendulum, like you say this thread's getting a bit long in the tooth

thats pure class best laugh i have had since the mother in law broke her hip pmsl
