South Shields 61st Open – FULL RESULTS

In my opinion the Shields open is one of the best for prizes and it always seems to run smoothly at the weigh in etc which needs credit to those that do it without anything else said. As back to the prizes The Alberta club had about 15 rods out in support and out of those that weighed in at the crown there was some excelent prizes. Well done Keith and the other lads at the shields club for another good year although im still waiting for my first weigh in 5 years but im sure it will come.

Before you all pull Neil 64 to bits, lets get one thing straight here. This is a fishing forum and he's entitled to his opinion. In his defence, there's a lot of clubs up North who don't allow the fishing of rivers and piers in their opens which therefore makes a heaviest bag of quality fish very commendable and certainly sorts out the men from the boys.
However, I'm not silly enough to realise these rules should apply to the Shields open, as we need the river bashers to make the numbers up.

Whats that suppose to mean like, "sorts out the men from the boys" that if you fish the river your not as equal as the people that fish the front?
Some people prefer the river as it can be more comfortable for them rather than jumping from rock to rock, take other things into consideration before you insult other people who happily fish the open.
Im not just saying this because i do fish the river alot but i do like the front aswell when the conditions are right, not everyone likes the same kind of fishing.
And as for the forum yes people are entitled to there opinions as i have showed here but i would say that everyone a member on here should get along thats what forums are also for.

I,m quite new to river fishing and have found it quite hard work. Avoiding the floating debri and weed on your line is a right pain. I also don,t think there is anything different really. You have blankers on the river as well as the shore.
I,ve fished the Tyne and the Wear now a few times at different spots.

Maybe it's just me, but I personally wouldn't kill a fish that I wouldn't eat, or use for "pot bait", how many of you eat those fish you catch in the river? I also thought those pictures of the heaviest bags were nothing more than a carnage of unwarranted greed.

don't worry Tony they weren't wasted some have already been eaten and the rest is in my freezer.

Terry, why does this match not have Penn points - was it not registered?

I used to always fish this open, especially when the big bags of coalies used to be in the estuary. Loved it! Just seems that the coalies are not there in the numbers they once were...

Nothing wrong with hsf matches at all - gives everyone a chance - although I do prefer heaviest bag matches...

you can always make your mind up on the day - biggest fish or biggest bag - you do have a choice....

Just seems a shame that the winner (who fished the Penn Sea League final last year at Samphire Hoe in Kent) has missed out on a shed load of points, which may have got him back in the final....

Apparently the application for penn points was a little too late, it will be penn points next year
