A lot of people fished the compo. And the heaviest fish was quite a modest size.
    well done.
Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

Makes sense if it helped fish conservation. Heaviest fish comps with a minimum weight rather than bags.

One heaviest fish beats a heaviest bag????.....stupid in my opinion... neil 1964.

Regarding this statement neil, The South Shields & District Sea Angling Club have for many years tries to put on a decent prize table and one prize that has been set in stone is for the person that lands the heaviest fish receives Ł500 and then the heaviest bag receives Ł300.
We as a club put these cash prizes on offer as other clubs do for as many anglers to participate in our open competition. Your remark about our clubs offer of Ł500 for the heaviest fish is stupid in your opinion, well I don't think the winner will have any complaints, and as for the heaviest bag winner who is a member of our club, I haven't had a complaint from him either.

Personally think its a very well run open!! heaviest fish gives everybody a chance and heaviest bag gives you better prize options as you get money plus 1st pick off the prize table etc ... and theres some good prizes!! how many prize tables offer a free trip to iceland fishing???
Theres always someone with a gripe but over 400 people turned out which speaks for its self!!
Even the raffle... zziplex and daiwa 7ht!!!
Well run, excellent day, really enjoyed it

Could you imagine someone coming back from the river with a bag of $h### and winning the trophy?

Just as well your not part of the Shields club, this is one of the longest running open shore comps in the country, 61 consecutive opens.
We must be doing something right.
If people think you are an idiot, why speak and remove all doubt !

and as i said to Terry at the weigh in, it is the only open I know where most of the competitors come back whether they have fish or not. And I believe the format Shields use for the area they fish is the best format.

PS thanks for all the coalies, not many whitings caught, got two crackers in with the coalies though.

300 and odd anglers every year seem to think the format is ok so if it aint broke then dont fix it !
