If you leave the skin on the Ling in any part of the cooking process then it will taste like rubber tyres but the white flesh itself is just as tasty as Cod

I gave some to my Boss and she said she didn't like it, I asked her how she cooked it...

"Pan fried on the skin side first....then flipped it over" "and my house stank" she says..."not surprised" I says

I saw some in Morrisons a while back and tried it, it was ok but I have tasted better, others might really like it. I reckon Coddy will be right about there being a lot of bone in Pouting as the fillets were all very small. Where you would have one piece of Cod you would have to have about three fillets of Pouting for a meal.

As for the Ling, as Tony says it is really nice. A similar thing happened to me years ago. I caught some Dogfish and kept a couple, when I got home I skinned them and baked them in the oven. One taste and straight in the bin with them, for me and SWMBO. I had had them before quite a few times and they were always nice, they were always fried too lol.

                LING,
always skin as quick as possible as it spoils the white fish i eat loads of ling and love it

                POUTING,
take a pan of milk place pouting in it and two house bricks simmer for 30 minutes put pouting in bin and eat the bricks

i dont understand when people say pouting is a bony fish
if it is filleted properly there will be no bones in it
my mate norman filleted one last week on the pier and there wasnt a bone left in the fillets

lot of tosh about Pout, they have very few bones and they taste very nice, but they need to be of a decent size, as for ling, tastes much better than cod which is quite bland. Mind none come anywhere nera as nice as mackerel, have I ever told you i like mackerel.
