Hi all. Heading over to Dumfries and Galloway in the summer for a few days. Looking for any advice on some decent marks. We've got Kircudbright and port patrick lined up but wouldn't mind heading up towards Ayr. Or if anyone knows any great marks in the area. Not really targeting any certain kind of species , just wanna be catching all weekend. Gonna be fishing beach rods and spinning/float gear too
Cheers.
Pollack and Bass, I'd go to the Mull, but off the beaten track. Get yourself an O/S map and do a bit research. The good marks, especially for Pollack, often involve a good walk. As for Bass, it was poor last year with not many marks producing anything but hopefully we'll get a decent year this year.
Rays, Smoothies and dogs, I'd concentrate on around Kirkcudbright (Balcary) up towards Auchenlairie. You'll still get Pollack but they tend to be smaller.
There are still some good marks on Whithorn, especially the east side for Pollack and Conger. Again, try and keep away from the known marks (Burrow head) as they're fished out with just small stuff there now. I found a mark not far from the harbour that produced plenty of Pollack to 4lb, wrasse and even codling.
I'm not sure if any marks around Kircudbright so any info is great . Been to portpatrick before know a couple of places there. Basically targeting anything that swims to be honest.
Thanks v much I'll seatch out some of these places
