  • Tyne Tunnel - Dredging for it.

Just a question for the oldtimers. When theres a major dredging of the tyne, did it screw up the fishing in the river? Just as the upper tyne has kicked into life with 2lb cod in decent numbers, in two - four weeks time the channel for tyne tunnel two is about to be dredged out by a beast of a machine. The last time i remember the tyne being dredged was at dunston for the national garden festival in the late 80s when i was a wee nipper for the guliver statue, and apprently the fishing went a bit poor then, so i was wondering if anyone remembers what (if any) damage to the sport a much bigger dredge, much further up river near the mouth will do...

Fished the Rat House about 7/8 years ago while they were dredging the harbour and it was a fish a chuck, I put that down to the fish coming in to feed on what was being thrown up from the bottom?

          dredging

A few members from the Alberta club where fishing the brick yard( hebburn police launch) just after the dredger on saturday morning and there was some good codling the best about 3.5lb but upon its return the fishing dropped right off so my answer is yes it has some effect, if you fish after it you catch and during well your drowning worm.
