alright andy ,
i moved from fixed spool to multi about a year ago and im sure most of the lads will agree you cant go wrong with a penn 525 mag, they have no level wind but you will will soon get used to that so don't worry about it plus with the magnets on full they will control the cast until you feel more confident casting then you can back them off . you can use your fixed spool rod with a multi as well . hope this helps and good luck with it davey

I started off with a Diawa SL175H, bit on the heavy side. Had a little Mitchell after that but the reel that finally saw me casting well with a multiplier was an Abu 6500 and it lasted me years. I finally replaced it when it gave up the ghost with a slosh 20 (for the beach) and a slosh 30 (for rougher ground) and haven't looked back. Abu has the level wind and I had mine set-up using that for the first couple of years and then removed it, lovely reel. Slosh's don't have level winds and it takes a bit of practice to lay the line.
