    hope this helps
Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland. This can be an excellent mark in the summer, huge shoals of mackeral move in under the point during calm weather in the months of July, August and September. The odd large cod can be caught on peeler crab baits from the kelp close in and are worth targeting. Floatfishing and spinning will catch mainly coalfish with the odd surprise pollack and wrasse. The pollack hotspot is the high inner cliff area where a drop net is needed to lift any good fish.

During the winter a South Easterly sea will bring in the cod especially under the cover of darkness. Dunstanburgh is extremely snaggy unless distance casting so be sure to take plenty of weights! In recent years dogfish, the odd conger eel and ling have been caught, target these in the summer though.

Directions: Park your car in Craster village and walk North to the castle, a twenty minute walk, make sure you close all farm gates behind you. When you finally reach the castle walk through the main gate, turn to the right, walk down the steps, then walk along the castle wall and at the end of the field you will see the point. There is no need to pay the admission fee for the castle if you are fishing just give the National Trust guy a nod and a wink and you will be allowed through

        dunstanburgh castle

ive fished this mark for years and totally agree with the advice given. i will point out that there is a closer area to park which is known as dunstan steads just along from embleton golf club - although if you are working your way back to craster you are probably best parking at craster itself.
id take a stiff beachcaster and also maybe a light rod for float/spinning. as previosly said take PLENTY of tackle because you will loose a lot. also if you are fishing near to the water be carefull because you can get some large freak swells that seem to come out of knowhere.
        good luck.

I'm sure i've got a few marks marked on my map (see link below). I've always been told it fished better on a calm sea with the big seas forcast for the weekend you might be better off trying embleton beach. They are some good gulleys on on the way to Dunst castle, or head south from the harbour and there a couple of nice gulleys along there.
Happy to help, Keen to learn!

well.....we went to dunstanburgh castle on friday and was ridiculously windy!!spent about 2.5 hours with my cousin catching a rockling there then moved down to craster! got to craster and couldnt belive how high the tide was!!(MASSIVE) my cousin then caught a 1.5lb cod which looked bigger then what it weighed and one of the other lads caught another rockling. i then pulled in a 3.5 lb cod again it looked like it was going to weight more than 3.5lb.....but was still happy with the size!

anyway after a few more freak waves we moved back to newcastle and went on the tyne for a few hours catching only 1 small flattie!

will get some pics on ASAP

thanks for all the advice and help.....

just realised that the scales are in KG and not lb's so the cod was actually 8 Lb!!!! and 3.5 for the other cod caught so not a bad size!!!!!
