  • leeda assassin

    HI
Looking to buy a new beachcaster this season someone recomended the leeda assassin any one got any comment on the 15ft model? also as an average caster, would a 15ft rod benefit my cast in maybe getting a bit further out.

    Cheers
    Paul

hey paul, maybe you would have more luck if you didnt support liverpool and supported sunderland haha.
sometimes it not about how far you can cast, the fish are right under your feet..
if you go out on a boat this winter give me a shout if you like. hopefully out next sunday on the wrecks. weather permitting!! :

once got told no rod can make a poor caster better,

but it can make decent caster better

If you can cast ok, a longer rod should make a difference, in theory. Don't know about the Leeda Assassin personally but a lot of manufacturers are going down the continental model rods. That is a rod that is a bit softer in an all through action, 15 or 16 feet in length and made for fixed spool reels. This means you should be able to compress it easier and the extra length gives you a theoretical faster tip speed. Beware though, a longer rod can feel cumbersome and takes a bit of getting used to.
On the other hand Sonik's SK4 beach rod is 16 foot long and is softish in the tip section only.
All generalisations are false, including this one

            leeda update

Well me dad got his leeda assassin yesterday so took it on the beach for a few practice casts, we used a fixed spool with 25ib braid and it flew off the reel,i reckon with my 13ft greys and multiplier id struggle to do more than 100yards,but with the new set up we reckon we were hitting 150 sometimes a little further, i know some of you pro's would laugh at 150 but hey i'm happy with that not sure how it fishes yet but will let you know next time he uses it.

            cheers
