  • Bait Fridge advice.

    Hi all,

im sick of the live bait i have only lasting a few days so i have decided to get a fridge to keep rag and lug in- what i would like to know is what advice people have on setting it up, such as temperatures and what to store the worms in. Also if anyone has any extra handy tips to add it will be greatly welcomed.

    bait fridge

mines kept on lowest setting a keep all forms of lug worm in quarter in of water in cat litter tray check every day if water dirty change and clean tray

ragworm can kept same way ,
also can be kept in damp seaweed or newspaper

frozen baits treat like you treat fresh meat, keep it clean and freeze soon and fast as posible, tip for freezing do it in small quantaties , it freezes faster

like a say every ones got own way and a bit different from others, this is just the basics for quickness you'll learn in no time just listening to others

      Phil,
I have used an old fridge for years to keep worms alive. The one thing I would reccomend is that you keep a couple of 2 litre plastic milk bottles - full of sea water - in your bait fridge as well, so when you change the water (every day) the worms are kept in a constant water temperature when the it is changed.

Don't worry about filling your trays with the water ; as long as the water just covers your worms, they'll keep fine. As Waco says though : It is very important to check your worms daily and CHANGE THE WATER DAILY. If you do this you shouldn't go wrong.
Just one other thing...Don't have too many worms in one tray.

      Good luck...........BAZACODBASHA

cat litter trays or something similar.try not to stick 2 many worms in each tray, maybe enough 2 cover the bottom of the tray, dont pile loads in.only put a little bit water in,dont submerge the worms, enough so that the body of the worms just sticks out above the water.change the water every 2/3 days removing any dead or sickly looking worms as these can soon kill of the other worms if not checked.as 4 the temperature of the fridge,as long as its chilled it will b fine.the cold wont kill them, make sure it doesnt freeze up though.lug worms should last a couple of weeks b4 they start 2 bleb up,once they start 2 bleb get them used.rag worm will last for weeks as they r a lot hardier than lug.ive kept them 4 about 2 month.must add the longer u keep your worms the less effective they become, but still better than using frozen bait.
        hope this helps.....sean.

Any sort of tray will do realy, size depends on how many you want to keep alive i woudnt put to many in one tray though. Like the lads say get some sea water put about 1/2inch of water in the tray just enough to keep the worms wet. Had these ones about 8 days and there still lively.
