Arrived an hour before low water and met up with Gaverick and Phil185. A flounder and rockling was all that had been caught but with a nice swell on I was confident of a fish or two.
Set up and cast in, I baited my second rig and went to have a bit craic with Gary and Phil. Couple of minutes later and I had a couple of huge lunges on my rod, I quickly legged it back over and waited for another bite. It only took a couple of seconds and I struck into what felt like a tidy fish. It hung me up but after some slack line and gentle persuading I had it on the move again. Gary and Phil waded into the surf as I got it closer and then I got some weed stuck in my leader knot. Luckily Gary was on hand to pluck it from the water for me (thanks mate) 1st cast + 10 minutes = 6lb 1oz cod
I didn't get another touch until the tide was in full flood, whilst baiting my second rig I noticed a few taps on my rod. I left it till I was done rebaiting, just as I hung my other rig up the tip slammed down hard. I wound down and felt what felt like another tidy fish, after some huffing and puffing 2 fish broke the surface. Yep, 2 sized cod on a pennel rig 1 weighing 2lb 3oz and the other 3lb 7oz. I took another soon after of 4lb 11oz followed by 2 in the 2-3lb bracket. Then the flounders and huge whities started, some of them over 40cm. By 5am I was completely out of bait and knackered so headed home.
I kept 6 cod and 4 huge whities for a bag of 21lb 7oz, a bag which caused severe pins and needles carrying the bugger back up
I just hope this is the start of a good season and not just a good start to a poor season.
I didnt take a photo of the bag on the beach so it will have to be a chopping board or kitchen shot when our lass gets in from work
