i am taking my son away to the loch next wekkend, does anyone know if you can still get down to the concrete boats that are on the shore just past cairnryan, i was gonna fish on the pier but hes only 10 and think itll be a bit too dangerous fishing there for him in the dark, has anyone been up there lately as its been over a year since the last time i fished up there. Cheers lads

I was up there during the summer, the peir at cairnryan was comletely closed off with new fencing and barbed wire so we didnt bother and just went down the mull. last time i fished a little further up i caught a crab in about 3 hours.

I would have a look on the Loch Ryan Sea Angling Association site for up to date information

I was up there in August and I dropped the wife and kids off in Stranraer while I went Macky bashing for an hour. True there is a gate with barbed wire but there are huge holes in it and the railings cut at high level as people have been using it as the access route. I climbed it easily. However, there were two old guys fishing just before the gate and as I left to pick up the wife, he had caught a nice 3lb bass on rag worm as few yards out.
              Hope this helps.

Here you go hot off the press

                Hi Snatcher,
Loch Ryan Sea Angling Association held their annual open at old house point near the stone boats a couple of weeks back.. Although there is a gate at the end of the road,he may still be able to park at the top and walk down (providing there is no construction traffic). He's quite right to avoid the pier, it has become very unstable over the years.
To find out what was caught during the open see Loch Ryan Sea Angling Association. L.S.A.A - Latest reports
                Wish him luck
