Winter rod recommend

Selling some gear to get a new rod for winter.

I am now wanting a pukka mixed to rough ground rod that will lob a bait from the rocks with an overhead thump e.g. like a modern Apollo mk1. Ain't kept up with the newer rods.

Needs to be stiffer than my primo synchro but lighter than my longbeach. Century or Zippy preferable.

Any recommends?

You couldn't do much wrong than a Greys Platinum GSi or for £100 less the Sonik SK4

Mk3 Appollo! Used one all last winter, highly recommended.

Cast well with plenty of poke for heavy ground yet still has fantastic feel and bite detection.

Have to agree with the Mk3 Apollo. I just love mine!! Most people i've spoken to who have tried them are very impressed with them.

The Platinum Gsi is also a cracking rod......i know someone who has got a very good condition 1 for sale 2nd hand.....a right bargain!

Any of these not an out and out stiffy?

Not as stiff as say a TTR - WR300 is stiff butt but more sensitive tip, Komp SS I'd say has a powerful, more through action, Zetec is stiff-ish but not in TTR league.

Also, just thought about the Conoflex Nemesis SLR Plus - a very nice, light rod, good for mixed to roughish ground. Not as heavy going as it's bigger brother the Anubis, which is much more an out & out rough ground rod IMHO.

I've also got an Anubis and Wr300 but both are now redundant for my Mk3 Apollo. Pulled in loads of fish with it during a session on rough ground in west scotland, doggies 2 at a time and it had no problems at all.

if you are looking for a zippy the new dymic hst evo may be exactly what you need. i have had mine now for 8 months and have used it in the roughest ground up at beadnell, newton etc and it handles it as well as any other rod ive owned, i noticed somebody else mentioned a nemesis slr, i own an slr and it is a lovely rod to use, great for casting, bite detection and ultra lightweight - a real fishing rod -but i wouldnt recommend it for heavy ground as it lacks that extra bit of backbone. the hst evo is 13ft8in and is the same weight as the slr! but it has much more poke, you can overhead thump a big bait effortlessly 80yards + (which is ample for most marksd up here) or i you wish it comes into its own fully loaded pendulum style. bite detection is second to none also. i have owned a ttr and found it too heavy and not really a fishing rod, whereas the hst evo is designed for fishing. at £400 its not cheap but you pay for top quality gear - and i assure you you wont be dissapointed!
