its not on being conned especially when bought in good faith, try taking the rod to a dealer and explain the situation and what he thinks and if not what it should be then take it back to the fellow you bought it off and tell him what the dealer said.

i bought a reel off someone who new through fishing and reckoned he was a canny lad, he said it just been serviced and had a new cam fitted ( have had a look on diagram and theres no part fitted called a cam )so a thought a cannny deal and when tried it out it sounded like a bag of nuts inside so a took it apart and the inside it looked if it never been serviced it was bone dry no oil or grease never been there for long time so a stripped right down give a good clean oiled all relevant parts and worked a lot better still a tad noisy compared to my other penn mags but a can live with it .

hope it works out for you but if buying second hand gear ask to try it out first before buying, genuine sellers will let you try it

        Try fishing with it.
If it is fine and suits you then whats the worry.
Guy you bought it off may have also bought it in that state and assumed that it was fine.
Hell you never know till you try that the rod may even be better for the changes.
If someone has re-whipped the rod they have gone to some trouble for a reason
To be honest till you try it you know nothing and i rather suspect that whatever the rod will still catch fish and like me i doubt, unless you had been told, that you would have thought there is anything wrong with the rod.
Go have a session and enjoy

hi there was really ticked off and went down to sandy bay to give it a good lash and see what it was lik but the ron thompson is a 3 to 6 oz when i put a 5oz weght is bent over pretty much and found it hard to cast with
but i hav to say that i think that the top half of the rod is off a much lighter rod like but who ever whipped it don a canny job like
but someone i was talking to was tell me that the lad who sold it def got it whipped on the top def t different rods
and the lad was trying to sell it to this lad i was talking to but he could tell it was different cheers lee

That is a bit of a ****er if you were looking for one sort of rod.
Sounds like someone was having a go at changing the rod to suit their needs.
Guess i would just put it down to experience and keep that rod for summer use.
Not much help when you have lashed out cash and may find it hard to get some more for a winter rod i know.
But it seems there is little more you can do.
            Shame though

The RT Axellerator comes in two forms 3-6 oz and 4-8 oz. I made the mistake of buying a 3-6 oz when I thought it was the stiff one!! Sold it on ebay for what I payed for it anyway. Put it down to experience.

Ive had 2 of these Ron Thompson rods and have found that the butt section has different pattern compared to the top section, this is probably where the confusion has occured because they do look like 2 totally different rods. Easy to assume that there could be a rabbit away but think it sounds kosher to me.

if you are inexperienced and where not to sure what rod to buy why did't you put a post on here and explain your situation, there are loads of lads on here with a wealth of experience in sea fishing who would have been only to happy to help you it' s one of the reasons we have this forum
