Yeah if they are not cooked. I got 300 in about half an hour the other day from the rocks. Shelled them, stuck em on a skewer and wrapped them with elastic and now just frozen them.

this is what l do with mine l cut them open with a knive but be carefull you dont go throw your hand

then l put them on a flat bit of wood for bulk freezeing

Looks canny----its a very underestimated bait mussle.

Only trouble I have using mussel is that I cant get the smell off my hands for about a week. Dont know if its just the ones I get from the estuary or if they all do that, but no matter how much I scrub my hands it still remains. Tried everything but nowt shifts it. Do you guys get the same problem?

He's sound that fella. I usually get me squid from him in the winter. It was 3 boxes for a fiver up until last year, but I think the price went up slightly.

Never tried the mussel from there but might give him a try. I'm sure he has a shop down by my mates electrical shop in Newcastle as my mate often tells me to write a list and he would pick it up before coming back to Longhoughton

after reading this thread I went looking for them cost me 2 quid for a hand full (6 in all) I`m guessing it would be cheaper collecting them myself or getting them elsewhere any help ? taking into account my location Inland Bishop Auckland area or the fact I travel to Sunderland area mainly for fishing a P.M. of where to collect would be handy and can I eat them myself?
