Thought for the day:
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs
Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

you need plenty of dry warm gear for the winter, i have a set of salopettes for piers etc and neoprene waders for the rocks and beaches. No good being wet and cold and not moving around too much.
i have a headlamp and a spare handheld torch, i use reflective tape on my rod tip and also on my tripod, so if i wonder out to cast, a quick scan with the headlamp shows up the tripod ;D
i also have a coleman northstar tilley lamp. works a trat in the winter, keeps your hands warm ;D i dont care if it means more gear, it makes me comfy lol
a mobile is a must, and a reccie of the area you are wanting to fish over low tide during the day. night time is so disieving.
i prefer fishing at night
