  • Help getting gear back

    Hiya guys!

    Big long shot here!

I was at Blyth south harbour fishing today opposite the staithes at Cambois!

I had my gear set up and in the water when someone from the cambois side (dressed in a black tracksuit and wearing a Newcastle united top) pulled my gear into the water.

I shouted over for him too carry on pulling the line in as my rod and reel were on the end.

He was with another chap fishing further down and HE had 1 child with him and his mate had 2 kids with him.

He pulled my gear in (inc a abu garcia MAGIII belonging to my dad. This has a lot of sentimental value to him as Mum bought it him and he has looked after it so well it looks like it has just came out of the box. The only thing missing is the level wind!

These guys saw me get into my car to go round (a 20 min drive) to get it back and by the time I got there they had put the gear in their car and did one >:

The cars they were driving were a Green ford focus mk1 and a 03 or 04 grey-silver BMW 318

Like I say the lad who did off with my stuff was wearing a black tracksuit with a Newcastle united t shirt on and had a kid with him.

If anyone has any info on these lads i would greatly appreciate getting even just the reel back i dont give a stuff about the rod.

    Thanks

Good luck mate, hopefully it's a misunderstanding and they were on their way to return the rod to you.

Might be worth asking at the local tackle shop.

Might also be worth contacting the police they may be able to pick the cars up on any CCTV in the area.
    Cheers, Keith.

I went over to get the gear back but when I got there was told the guys had packed up and left then I came back incase they had made their way over to where I had been fishing.

Asked when I came back and the guys fishing told me the min I left to go over they packed up and buggered off. They never came over the side I was fishing on!!!!!!

Just to edit I waited on my side after returning for over 2 hours before leaving to go home. I reported it to the local station just behind the harbour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had a word with the police but to be honest i dont think they were interested.

I am totally gutted as I thought us fishermen would stick together and look after one another and this is like a big stab in the back.

I was kinda hoping someone on here might have known them of know of them but I know it's a long shot.

I am now looking about to see if I can get a replacement for my old man but failing that it looks like I will have to settle for a new reel for him.

          Thanks

As said, police is probably the best bet, if you had the reg then you could do a vehicle background check on the net (just say your the owner lol). Yes fisherman stick together but remember, some mack bashers are just that, mack bashers, not "Fishermen", meaning they fish maybe 2 months of the year with cheap gear and a staffie next to them lol.... anyways, i hope you find them through the tackle shops, if you live close i recommend driving by alot (just look for the car)
Species: Cod, Bass, Coalie, Flounder, Dab, Rockling, Mackerel, Plaice, Pollock, Ballen Wrasse, L/S Scorpion, Common Blenny, Weaver (unfortunately), Whiting, Common Eel, Trout, Pike... think that's it

just a shot in the dark really mate you dont think with you shouting over to them and they had kids with them that they thought they were in trouble and done off?. have you thought about getting a few print outs about loosing the gear get them laminated and tie them to a near by lamp posts where they were fishing and where you were fishing and blyth pier just explaining that the gear was sentimental to you and its a long shot they might return or someone might know and help you? I hope this helps.
                    fingers crossed for you mate.

When I was shouting I was calm just getting heard over the river! No threats no swearing etc!

From what I was led to beleive they pulled in MY gear and another lads fishing further up.

I was going to try popping up now and then and see if the cars are there again and if they are go over and have a word i think thats the only course of action. If they had handed them in at the local plod station I guess i would have got a call as I gave them a description of the stuff that went missing!

I guess doing a bit of sleuthing may be in order make like a yank cop and stake it out with a box of donuts lol.
