  • Hartlepool Heugh

Has anyone been to the Heugh lately(I hope this is the correct spelling, if not oh bu**er)?
I went yesterday only to see new barriers welded on stopping people getting past the gate. Does anyone know of any reasonable reason as to why? Or is it just a case of "BIG BROTHER" flexing his muscles?

Hi Hadji and welcome to NESA. There have been railings on there as long as I can remember, all down to safety. I reckon if they were not there then they would probably close the pier to the public, too many claims and not enough money in the world to pay them out mate. Not really a case of big brother, more a case of keeping people safe. Lets face it, if a youngster wandered along and was hurt or washed off by a wave then everyone would be shouting "It should have been made safer" or "Why wasn't there a fence". No matter what they do it will not be right with everyone lol they are on a hiding to nowt.

      Jim.

        Hi Jim,

I fully appreciate the need for the barriers, I was mentioning the replacement of the old with even bigger new ones. It's just a shame to waste the outer half of the heugh. I can see more getting injured tryng to scale these new ones. Being new to fishing the Heugh was one of only three places I know where to go. Now I'm down to two.....

I'm sure some of the lads from south of the Tyne will be able to point you to a few alternative spots.

welcome to nesa hadji ,you can still get onto the heugh by climing round the right hand side of the gate as you look out to sea,but be warned if there is a big sea running from a northerly blow stay well clear of the pier, there is also many more marks to fish round the hartlepool area and i think i know most of them, it's no problem for me to show you them just send me a pm.
