  • The Mull

Arrived on Friday afternoon and straight to a mark north of Portpatrick. Sea was flat and pretty clear.

We managed codling, wrasse, pollock, whiting, and plaice during daylight, nothing huge, the biggest being greeny's 3lb 4oz ballan(pic to follow) As night approached expectations were high as this mark produces ling, conger and rays. Sadly not to be though as the doggies run riot, taking all baits regardless of size within only a few minutes.

Day two saw fantastic fishing conditions, none existent wind and clear blue skies matched with unbelievable heat and crystal clear water.

As expected the mackerel turned up in huge numbers and my bait bucket was filled within 20 minutes.

I managed my first sized pollock on a spinner shortly after, so I knew they were there.

I quickly set up a float rig with a 1/0 hook and fresh mackerel and in the next 2 hours took 30 pollock to 2lb. Excellent sport on light gear.

We didnt fish that night, opting to have an early night in preparation of a good day the next day.

The last day, the weather was awful with gale force winds and heavy rain, we decided to fish the Mull again as this was the only place we could find shelter. Again we had loads of mackerel, pollock and the odd wrasse and doggie but nothing huge.

We were there at the same time. We went on a boat out of Portpatrick on the Friday. Fished the Mull on the Saturday (just to the right of you looking at your pictures). Sunday we went home coz we didn't like the change in weather (plus hung over)
Your pictures remind me of how difficult the climb back up was!

Aye, wasn't easy on the legs. The weather on Sunday improved as the day wore on, the sun came out and the wind dropped a bit.
