I went 3 or 4 yrs ago to the North end of the island where there was a nice long sandy beach with a set of rocks at the end. Plenty of tiddlers around which will take a small hook (size 14/16) loaded with a small shellfish (like winkles) found on the rocks. I fished the small fish as a live bait on a big float and a 3/0 hook and got a couple of takes but didnt manage to hook into whatever took them. When I was walking along the beach without my fishing gear I saw a good size fish (Barracuda shaped) chasing small stuff about 6 foot from the waters edge. I tried later with jelly worms, plugs and spinners but no takes on these along the beach or the rocks.

A local fisherman recommended crab as the best bait and dug some out of their burrows for a small fee ($1 each). They wernt peelers so they had to be mounted either whole or half tied on with elastic but the small fish just picked them clean before anything else could take it.

If you get tempted to go boat fishing (at $60 each which sounded good value) then check out how many anglers is the boat limit as I was told there would be no more than 6. When 11 of us got on the dock side I think someone told me a fib. With 7 rods out and 5hrs later and not one take on the baits set out for sailfish, tuna, dolphin fish etc....very dissapointing.

    Good luck.
A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.
