Hi all new kid on the block hear, and great site by the way I am of the opinion that if they closed the piers it may be a loss to the foolish people that upset everyone with their antics but not for long as they don’t really care in the first place and that’s what leads to the mindless behavior closing the pier will only move them on to somewhere else and not affect their behavioral pattern which is the problem.

However the people that really do care would really be effected by its closure and would not just be decent fishermen it would be the likes of the local tackle dealers that maybe would lose out on some business the likes of the little cafe that may well be serving a meal or a cuppa to the day tripper that will go to Sunderland purposely for a nice stroll along the pier including the many disabled people I have seen that go along in there wheel chairs all these people would probably decide to go further along the coast to South Shields until that pier was closed.

I hope I am not upsetting anyone with my first post as it’s not my intention but there is nothing what so ever wrong with the pier and it will no doubt attract some business of sort to the area what the problem is that everyone would agree with the drinking rubbish leaving behind and antisocial behavior which is all against the law please don’t campaign to close the pier as I think closure would be a sad loss to the area.

I recon a couple of trips along by the local police confiscating alcohol arresting offenders under the public order act and confiscating some gear would see a change these people don`t need moving on they need to know society won’t put up with their crap.

Hi lorry and welcome to NESA, pleased you managed to get on eventually lol. No one is campaigning for the pier to be closed mate, just really saying what could happen if people don't get their acts cleaned up a bit. As pondlife said the mess isn't confined to the summer either, a lot of people use the piers all year round and leave their rubbish behind every time. No one that uses the fishing forums though lol, I have met some great people through my fishing but have also met others that I would'nt want to have anything to do with at all, that is the same in all walks of life unfortunately, not just fishing. As for what to do about it I don't know, if the powers that be won't do anything about it it will continue to be a problem.

              Jim.

Hi Jim thanks I take your point no one is campaigning for a closure but like you say if the powers that be do nothing sadly it will end up that way I just feel its a shame that so many enjoy the piers and ruined by so few now I'm off to the junior section to find out where I`m going wrong lol
                Cheers Lorry

Never thought I would get such a good response to my post, but it shows there is enough of you good anglers out their that care.
I have lived close to roker pier for nearly 50 years & agree with the point that it is not only enjoyed by us anglers, but for walkers & tourists.
Hopefully something might get sorted out in our favour.
                  Thanks for the responses.
I will only be out for a couple of hours pet.

It's difficult to really know what to do or who to complain to. People that have never fished before will believe that these people getting drunk on the pier are regular anglers. I didn't say proper as I don't really know what a proper angler is. I have seen some bad behavior by people that would class themselves as "Proper Anglers". I could quite imagine if there were too many complaints, even from people trying to get rid of the drunkards, then they might close it down to get shot of the problem.

It would'nt be the first time I have had a freezing cold beer out of my cool bag when I have been on Roker pier. I don't see a problem with it but going and getting drunk or stoned and being a PITA isn't on, besides the fact that it is ilegal now too.

                    Jim.

may be against the law to get drunk but theres no enforcement of that law, shame the local bobbies cant do a few heavy handed bulk busts on the piers and ruin the scums `fun`
personally i would like to see a permit for all piers and breakwaters, large gates fitted so a climb around is not an option, that should get the pi55heads away because no doubt they would rather pay for a bottle of white lightening than pay for the pier

Good idea mate, but then it would have to have a bigger and wider set of railings than tynemouth pier,as getting on their aint a problem for some, put security on, similar to the way steetley was a couple of years ago, and let them drive along the pier at any given time

when there was security on steetly and you had't paid your yearly fee's [around 30 quid, and worth every penny, you did't get on] and you could go on there in the middle of the macky season and not a chav in sight

I have tried complaining to the port authorities and they say it is down to the local police to sort out the problems at Roker and the local police say it is down to the port authorities.
Niether want to do anything. Typical of them both, want to sit back on thier rear ends getting paid, but dont want to do any work.
