  • Lynemouth Beach question

I heard that Lynemouth beach can be a good place to fish for mackerel from the shore. I was just wondering what you folks think about that as I was going to try Blyth pier on Friday morning but I could do with going somewhere a bit quieter and away from any crowds.

Also, I was told to park behind the Sea Bait place but looking at the OS map there doesnt seem to be any roads going near there. Any advice on parking is appreciated!

    Cheers
    Dean

i would not have said lynemouth was a hotspot for macky mate, if you are coming from say newbiggin towards lynemouth you will pass woodhall on that road, then you will see ALCAN on ya right, there is a turn off the main road takes you down to alcan and you can park there
FIND THE ROCKS AND KELP AND YOU WILL FIND ME

Cannot remember where I heard about the Macky, think it was on another forum. Thanks Jimmy for the parking info though, I've never fished Lynemouth but now I know where to park I might give it a go sometime. Thanks mate.

EDIT: Just looked on Flash Earth to try and find where you mean. Is this the carpark where I can park?:

      Thanks again!

Dean, The cars you can see on the flash earth view are in the staff / operatives car park behind the fence. You can park outside the fence under the bridge on the left, or next to the gatehouse which is usually manned, I have only fished this area between november and february with reasonable results but would expect flounders and dabs, and maybe a plaice or lesser spotted dogfish at this time of year. Like anywhere on the coast if its flat calm, the mackeral can push the sprats right up to the high tide line, and then the fun starts.

Thanks mate for that info. I would probably have ended up parking in thier staff carpark by mistake and getting into trouble!

Early morning or late evening high tides are best - and try and choose a spring tide also - you may be surprised and get the odd bass too...I have.

One tip....watch for where the birds are diving...thats a signal to where the mackerel are chasing the sandeels and sprat.

Good luck mate - it's nice to be away from the usual crowd flinging sinkers and flies all over the shop....
Nice one, thanks mate. Hight tide tomorrow morning is about 6.30am and I have the day off work wahaay! Might just have to give it a try tomorrow

I was there lastnight, nothing doing as yet, but it sure beats the crowds on the piers, when the macky are in it's a cracking place to spin & daylights with a good return.
