I know it can be frustrating when he comes and drops his net right in front of you but he isn't after your Mackerel at all lads. It costs him a hell of a lot of money to drop his net there every year and as long as he does'nt fix one end to the pier he is fully legal.
There was a lot of trouble a few years ago and idiots on the pier were throwing lead weights at him. If you see any problems keep well away as he could quite easily recognise you again and point you out even if you were'nt doing anything wrong, if there are a lot of people about it is easy to get mixed up with faces and he could just say, "He was there" and point at you.
I think most people know why he is there now and just avoid the parts of the pier where he drops his nets. I have a much bigger problem with the kind people that drop their pots well within casting distance during the winter months making the end of the pier practically unfishable.
Jim.Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.

Yep, it's the salmon/sea trout nets, he's there around this time of year every year. Annoying but unfortunately legal. If he's a reasonable distance off then they don't seem to cause much bother for the mackeral fishing, when they're as close as they've been of late though they're a bit frustating if you're chucking anything other than a spinner because they're in casting range.
