Opens or club matches? Either way there are plenty. Gforce should be able to point you in the right direction for club matches and Alan Charlton has the opens list.

This is a unique occasion for Trout and Salmon anglers in the North East region to have the opportunity to view, try, and buy, in one location a massive selection of rods, reels, fly lines, fly tying materials & equipment, flies, hooks, tippet materials, sports clothing, etc, in anticipation of the new 2010 season.

Throughout the day there will be casting demonstrations, casting clinics, presentations on competition fishing, still water fishing, river fishing, advice squad and much more. Fly tying demonstrations on those competition flies, plus club members showing their individual tying patterns that catch on local and national waters, (just ask them to tie that elusive fly?)

Staff will be on hand from many Still Waters such as Stocks Fishery, Sharply Springs, Witton Castle Lakes, and many more to explain what’s on offer in the coming season regarding stocking policy, facilities, local competitions, etc.

Hi mate, bit of a late reply (been fishing a match up the tyne tonight), Seany beat me to Alan's list of dates - there are also the Rutherford's matches at the Copthorne Hotel (right among the bridges on the Tyne & where I've been tonight). These are six league matches, all fished 7.30 - 10.30 pm, the rest of the dates being:

              Monday 29 June
              Weds 15 July
              Weds 29 July
              Fri 14 Aug
              Fri 28 Aug

              details from Andy Rutherford (Rutherford's Angling) - 0191 565 4183

They also have their open at the same location this Sunday from 1 - 5pm, details from Andy as above.

In the Blyth area specifically, there aren't many matches being fished at the moment, but there are a couple of clubs in the area who fish their own summer matches - some in the area & some away. I fish with the South Beach club who organize occasional summer matches (things like a mackerel session on the pier) and the odd trip up the coast. These are usually put together at shortish notice (unlike the winter matches which are all laid out) to take advantage of a favourable forecast & such. Drop me a pm if you want any details.

              Cheers, Gary
