  • New Britain to Norway Ferry

    Hi Guys

It was suggested by the good people over at Whitby Sea Anglers that I pop in and tell you all about plans to re-launch the Britain to Norway ferry.

We've had a great response from WSA and other anglers and wondered if the anglers here place the same value on Norway as an angling destination.

Obviously, a ferry to Norway from the UK means you can take so much more gear with you, including the car.

What would a ferry to Norway mean to you guys?

It would be great if you could come and support us by registering your interest in the ferry at The Official Britain to Norway Ferry Campaign: From Britain to Norway on the Ferry

    Thanks in advance

    Trev Roberts

I think it would mean longer journey times and would cost more than flying, taking extra baggage on the KLM flights is cheap as chips. How much gear do you need?

To be fair KLM are far from cheap £110 return for rod tube and most likely get lost on route along with your cases lol and there flight prices are double+ to what other company's are down south it's just all we have up here

Have been with KLM twice and it didn't cost anywhere near £110 for a tube, it was about half that.

It was only about £25-30 to adman extra 25kg case too, so if you travel in a pair one takes rod tube with both lots of rods in with sinkers taped to the tube in a waste pipe. The other takes the extra case with all bait in, food items etc etc etc.

The ferry will be expensive, take ages and there will be a long drive when you get there. If you travelling in winter you will also need the appropriate tyres on your car which costs £££££.

I would be surprised if taking a ferry would be cheaper than flying and a hire car for say 3 anglers in a car it would also take a hell of a lot longer.

no thats for a bazooka rod tube with 4 beach rods, 2 tripods and about 30 sinkers strapped to it. It might have changed since February when we went (the flights were booked in about april 2013) but it was definitely nowhere near that amount. I remember being surprised at how cheap it was for an extra case.

Iseem to remember that if you took your normal case, then an extra case plus an extra tube then the cost for the third item got a bit stupid.

Is that 25-30 each for your tube as I use the same one and has always cost a high amount as you can't book it in advance we took 2 tubes in jan and both cost the same

Boats don't fly in the sky at 30,000 feet and plummet to the ground really, really, fast!

At least if a boat sinks you have a chance!

I'd certainly consider it, price dependant of course. Cruise up, catch the Northern Lights and have all your gear with you at all times.
                  Cheers.

I went at the same time in Feb 2013. At that time you could take your first hold luggage as sports equipment up to 23kg but this must be prebooked,if you pay at the airport on the day it costs a lot. We took the bait in a polystyrene box inside a cardboard box as my mates first hold luggage. We then booked a second hold bag each at £25 return for all our clothing.

I don't know if they have changed their policies now that I researched this several times over and it worked. The sports luggage can be two smaller rod tubes taped together just so long as its all in one piece when you arrive at the booking in desk.

                    Good luck.
A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.

They have never let us pre book the rod tubes they told us if it's over a certain length it has to be paid for at the airport that's everytime we have went with Klm for the past 4 yr
                      Cheers Nicky

Probably the same as most other companies, when you ring up it depends on who you speak to, someone who is helpful or someone who can't be arsed.

I have also never seen any tubes getting measured before being checked in and in Feb there were a lot of tubes getting checked in!

I spent several hours susing out how to the sports equipment and a few phone calls to KLM. I eventually worked it out and even emailed them with my intentions or all the luggage which they kindly confirmed for me were OK in an email in case he staff at the airport tried to charge us. The KLM website is a nightmare to navigate at times but all he info was there. I agree with who you speak to at KLM can make a big difference because one fella totally contradicted what two other lasses told me.

You will probably find that the length of a rod tube is about the length they quote in the max dimensions. Again they didn't measure ours.

Remember when your case was over and u got charged extra-your face hit the floor. Blackrat was the same-he had to take all his goodies out and lass on the desk kept them ha ha.
I would love to take my motor over on a ferry-u wold not see me for three weeks.

Oh and my motor would be stuffed with goodies-especially a couple of boxes of Stella.

It really is a right fanny on sorting tubes and weights-that's why I liked Phil at Skarnsundet, Rod reels rests baits and even a floaty suit supplied. And a bloody tackle shop on site. Phil even lent us some spinning gear when he gave us a boat for a couple of days and it was ace gear.
