  • Blyth Pier 12/06/09 - Mackerel

Tried spinning for mackerel Blyth pier last night (11/06/09) met NESA member 5150 who unfortunately had blanked in his attempt for mackerel, fished for a couple of hours caught nothing and saw nothing caught by others.
Not one to be put off with a blank thought I would give it a go today
(12/06/09) fished from 5.15pm spinning for mackerel just before the bend, conditions far from perfect with a stiff easterly , tried for approximately one hour with nothing to show for my efforts before moving to the end of the pier. A couple of lads were already fishing there with daylights and had been successful with three mackerel a piece, I tried spinning for approx half an hour but no joy, in the mean time the other lads managed a couple more on their daylights, so I decided to change tackle to three daylights with a one ounce sinker on my spinning rod, should I be fortunate to fill all three hooks I would be in trouble. After a short time success into a mackerel which gave a good account of itself however this was to be my one and only fish as by now the sea was getting quite rough and the wind was increasing in strength so decided to call it a day.
In the time I was on the pier approx three hours mackerel were only caught from the end, and only on daylights, several people including myself had tried spinning with a lure but with no luck. Number of mackerel caught by six people over three hours approximately twenty.
