back from cyprus last wed and thought i'd post me fishing experiences.

had a few mini sesh's of various rocks and harbours and managed a few cuckoo wrasse, ballan wrasse, squillions of some little spiny fellas (could of been weevers, not sure so was very careful) all came to float fished bread paste on dinky ickle hooks. had me daughters out 'fish spottin' for me with tha snorkelling gear on, "left a bit dad", "bit further out dad" etc, its the future dont think they'd appreciate swimming off blyth pier on a january night like me boy caught his first couple of fish,he's only 6 bless him, little ballans, he was well chuffed with himself (had a tear in me eye) so he might give it another go. no mullet unfortuately saw a few in paphos harbour on a couple of evenings but never got chance to have a bash at them.

was gonna do a spot of 'deep sea' fishin (19 euro's, odd no. that innit?) one morning for hopefully bream/perch/ snapper etc but the skipper kinda talked me out of it, said we'd catch plenty but all very small. TUNA was the craic apparantly. 40euro for 4 hours late afternoon early evening. eventually got it for 33 euro christ they were wanting 20 euro for a half hour on a pedalo where we were staying so wasn't missing this one out
out on the sunday at 3 30, 9 of us fishing the 3 rods (he never told us that when we booked him) so the craic was to rotate every 20 mins. 3 or 4 km's out fishing in 1km deep water over went the lures, 1 out either side and 1 out the middle, all different depths. first bunch grabbed the rods and hey, wa tuna fishin nowt for the first lot so the second lot took that positions and BANG, jeesas he's in. the reel was proper screamin for ages before he tightened the drag a little and started to get some line back took about 10 mins and another 3 or 4 runs before the lad got it to the boat, skipper shouts out its 15 plus kilo's.........and promptly lost it tying to gaff it thats fishin. me and me brother in law then got wa turn, talk about anticipation, i was propa shakin obviously we got nowt. in fact nowt for the next couple of hours. thought we'd not get another chance (glass half empty and all that..) we just handed the rods over after our little stint and you guessed it, BANG WEEEEEEEE, BANG WEEEEEEEE only a double flippin hook up, nee way propa excitin stuff 2 tuna tear arsin all over the place out the back of the boat anyway, one was lost mid battle before the other, which was a good fat 15lb, was gaffed. nowt more after that but what a sesh, loved it. thats me bro in law with the tuna

    till next time..........................

Really nice report and pics mate.Well done!
Generally, the only places to catch mullets in Greece and Cyprus, are the harbours, fishing with a pole and that smelly "fish-food" as we call it back home.
Seems you had a nice time though with your family,so no problem even if you didnt get loads of fish.
Thanks for the medi-smell you brought us mate

Cyprus, been going there for the past nine years staying at protaras and have never given it a thought to take some fishing gear.i know the island became synonymous with huge weights of carp, but have read a report this morning that eastern european poachers have been hard at it and there's been huge fish losses.
Getting back to the sea fishing can't say i've spotted mullet in the harbours i've visited in cyprus. Unlike the harbours at lanzorote or fuerteventura in the cannaries the harbours there are full of mullet.next time in cyprus will have to fish.
Nice report and photo's try not to let the boy see dad cry it wiil upset him big time.
Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught
